Schieffelin Days

Ed Schieffelin was Tombstone’s founder and we are celebrating his legacy with a family-friendly, fun weekend in Tombstone.

Update: Due to the coronavirus, Schieffelin Days has been postponed until October 9-11, 2020. We are planning the same exciting events, just later in the year.

The Goodenough Mine Tour, Lilly’s Tombstone Memories, and Burro Buddies are working together to bring back our Founders Day called “Schieffelin Days” the first weekend of April. The big event will take place on Saturday: The Desert Donkey Race. That’s right, Pack Burro Racing is coming to Tombstone as an annual event. While the schedule is still being finalized, it looks like we will have the following contests and activities over the two-day weekend.

  • Mucking Contest (Adults and Kids)
  • Tobacco Spitting Contest using Tootsie Rolls (Adults and Kids)
  • Rock Drilling Contest (Adults Only)
  • Mini donkey race (Adults and Kids)
  • Stick donkey race for kids (Sunday)
  • Donkey Doodoo Contest (Adults)
  • Donkey Poop Scoop Contest (Adults)
  • Silent Auction
  • Face painter
  • Break geode (Kids)
  • Pin the tail on the Donkey (Kids)
  • Donkey Education Booth
  • Petting Zoo

Come on out to Tombstone that weekend. It will be a great family weekend celebrating our mining heritage.

I was born and raised in Missouri and have been an elementary school teacher, an EMT, an electronics technician, and a dean at a community college. I retired in July 2019, so I now have time to follow my dream and lead tours in Tombstone, Arizona. I work at the Goodenough Silver Mine and lead tours down into the mine, trolley tours around Tombstone, and ghost tours every weekend.
